One Fruit That's Always in Your Kitchen

  • Grabbing an apple just made me think about this. I realised I almost always have apples at home. They're not my absolute favourite fruit (though I do like them), but I buy them consistently for a few practical reasons.

For one, they last a long time and don't rot quickly. More importantly, their taste is always reliable. An apple almost always tastes like an apple, unlike other fruits where you're never sure if they'll have good flavour or just no flavour at all.

My actual favourites are different, like peaches, but it's so hard to find a good one. I also love cherries, but they're just too expensive. Anyway, it got me curious...

What's the one fruit you find yourself buying all the time, and why? Is it your absolute favourite, or just the most reliable one (like my apples)?

  • Blueberries, i m addicted to them.

For about 2 years straight, I would put them on my morning cereal, but it's been a month since I have. Time to get back to them again :)

MoonlitPoise I've had hit and miss issues with apples as far as being to spongy. But figured it out. 2 brands that always seem to be firmer for me are Fuji and Gala. I flick them with the back of my fingernail and listen to the response. If it sounds like a dead thud, I'll try another one, or go to the other brand. I want it to sound like oak wood, nice and bright and loud. I like firm apples :) I'm sure I get looks from people as I'm doing it, as I give them "the look" when they're sniffing fruit LOL ^^

I like blueberries too . Lately I’ve been getting them more often, mostly for breakfast.

    apples and bananas

Nice! Do you have a specific type of apple you prefer?

Ahh, a flick test sounds great! I may have to try it, too. ^^ You are so right, there's nothing worse than a spongy apple. It's great you mentioned Fuji and Gala, as they are definitely two of the best for being firm. I agree that crispness is a must, but for me, the most important thing is sweetness. My favourites are definitely the sweet ones, so I always look for Fuji and Modi.

I'm sure we still get a bad one sometimes! I just feel that, overall, my chances of getting a good apple are still way better than my chances of getting a good peach.:D

I like crisp and mildly sweet ones—Honeycrisp and Fuji are usually my favorites. They’ve got that perfect crunch and a balanced taste. What about you—do you prefer the tart types like Granny Smith or the sweeter varieties?

My preference is definitely for the sweeter apples. But honestly, I'll happily eat any variety as long as they are good apples. :)
